Equestrian sports at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics confirmed!

          Saturday, 10 September, 2016

It's confirmed that equestrian sports will be present at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games!

Riders and fans of equestrian sports around the world can now breathe a sigh of relief. Equestrian sports will be present at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

The 125th meeting of the IOC (International Olympic Committee), which started on 7 September in Buenos Aires, ended today.

After each edition of the Olympic Games, the IOC Executive Board reviews the main sports for the next Olympic programme. This ensures that the Games remain relevant to current sporting trends and thus attractive to spectators.

For a while, it seemed that equestrian sports were in danger of being removed from the Olympic programme. So the FEI launched the "Two Hearts" campaign, which emphasises the intimate bond between horse and rider. However, they have now been confirmed!

It was decided that wrestling will no longer be part of the list of main sports, and that it will be pre-selected with 7 other sports (baseball, climbing, karate, roller sports, squash, wakeboarding and wushu).

These 8 sports will seek to be included in the Tokyo Olympics as "additional sports", and will appear before the IOC Executive Committee in May 2017 at a meeting in the Russian capital, St Petersburg.

For the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, golf and ruby were the additional sports.

You equestrian fans did a great job. Thank you for showing the world, and especially the IOC, how much we love equestrian sports and how important they are.

Now it's time to show our support for all the incredible athletes who are competing in the world's best sporting events.犀利士 t in the Paralympics! You are all a true inspiration. Para-equestrian dressage starts tomorrow, we can't wait! (Sunday, September 11)
